Question linux on hard drive

instead of downloading suse linux, putting it on a dual layer dvd and then using the option to install on hard drive (like i have on dsl), can't i directly download it to the hard drive and run it from there?

You'll still have to have a live cd or a boot cd to install. Might as well burn it.
