Default Linux and GNU

I just started a new module at school "UNIX Operating System" and in the reading for tonight it mentioned that Linux is distributed under the GNU General Public License which makes it mandatory for developers and sellers to make the source code public. It goes on to say that much of the software can be downloaded free from the Internet.
Does anyone know where I can find a free download for UNIX OS's. I use VMWare at home, the professor gave us copies of Ubuntu but my computer doesn't support it, it says my processor isn't powerful enough.

Do you have the right ubuntu for you cpu. What I mean is is your cpu a 32 or 64-bit and what is you ubuntu version. You have to have a 32 bit software for 32 bit cpu and same for the 64 version. What type of cpu do you have?

Tj107 is right. you properly have a CPU that only supports 32bit OS.
all modern CPU's have 64 bit support, so your computer must be old.

A good site to download Lunix OS distributions are at the official site for the chosen OS it self.
So if you want to download Kubunu (my favorite btw) then go to www.kubuntu.org
In case you want ZorinOS, then go to www.zorin-os.com
