ok great
this computer is dual boot though so will linux be affected by this?
And Im running win98 because windows XP install gives IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
so if I wipe the CMOS, pull out the graphics card, boot into win 98 safe mode uninstall video card drivers and remove it from hardware list, I wont get IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL when I try to install XP?
sounds good to me

I would like to promise you wouldn't, but it would happen then
Have you tried installing XP with an "OEM" disc? Sometimes if something is wrong with the disc, you can get errors like this. You could always go with 98 and then try to upgrade. That's the long way around it, and it may work.
