Smile ipconfig help

Wen I go into DOS and type ipconfig
I get a list of things.

and one of them is
ip address and then a string of numbers.

My computer is at home and is not connected to any Network but it is connected to the DSL MODEM

Is this my ip address fromn Verizon or is this my computers name I gave it showing as numbers???

Default Re: ipconfig help

No, your modem assigns the computer an IP address. This is just an internal (probably 192.168.X.X) number that the modem uses to know where traffic is coming from.

Your IP address from Verizon can be found by going to a site like ipchicken.com. This is your external IP address.
