Default Installing XP over Vista?

My buddy has Vista and hates it. He was wondering if we could put XP over it. I happen to have a XP recovery disk that came with my Alienware, I also have a XP upgrade disk for 98 and millennium systems. Would either of these work?

Thanks, Dono

Not entirely sure personally, but a quick Google search brought up a lot of results including this one: http://www.computerworld.com/s/artic...owngrade_to_XP - might be of some use

Incidentally, I loved how just typing "downgrade" into Google returned "downgrade vista to XP" as the first suggested result, clearly you're not alone!

If it's a computer that was bought recently, I wouldn't bother. If it's a custom built computer, then you are fine. Basically, getting drivers for a computer that was bought in a store is about as fun as changing a flat tire on the side of the interstate.

Also, I will forewarn you that to install XP, you will need to get the SATA control drivers so that the XP installation disc will recognize your SATA drive.

Well, there's ways and guides of course.

Here's one that apparently has a way without reformatting

And yea, if its not custom built your going to have to get drivers for all your hardware off of the manufacturers website, which if you don't know all your hardware would end up being a huge hassle.
