Installing XP onto a PC with no OS currently installed

I recently tried to wipe my approximately 7 year old Dell XPS and restore to factory condition. During installation from a Windows XP disc it gave me an error and said files were missing from the disc. What I am trying to do now is set up a bootable thumb drive. I have Windows XP in a file on my Mac but I need to get this onto a thumb drive so it can install on to my PC. Every tutorial I've found on this topic has been making the USB drive with windows. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm about to start school and I need this computer for programming. Thanks!

You could use WinToFlash for this.

I'm making the usb on a mac though. I couldn't find a version of WinToFlash for mac.
