Exclamation Installing XP fail at hard drive selection !!!

I have a sony desktop that the hard drive has failed. I have put in a new WD 1TB drive and entered the XP installation CD,

Everything loads up, i press enter to install XP then f8 to accept t&c's then at the point where i should choose the HDD to install to i get a greyed out list and my new and only drive is not listed. Every one of the 4 listings says unknown disk then "there is no disk in this drive".

If i press any key the installation will result in a BSOD.

I have looked in the BIOS and the BIOS can see the HDD. Also i cant see any options to change the mode of the drive.

Make sure the HDD is set to AHCI in BIOS.
Me: You'd think as the dominant species we wouldn't be so effing stupid.
J: We're just intelligent enough to be completely effing stupid.
