GNU Grub is your best bet.

The install disc might have it on already. Most distros do.

is that to flick between software

also do i need to put any files on my windows system to use linux

It is a bootloader. you select which operating system you want on bootup.

You do not need to do anything to windows but you will need to shrink the partition in the install cd. You will also overwrite the mbr, but that is also in the install disc.

Btw suse is not the best for a beginner. I suggest debian.
