Default Images missing on IE8

I have Windows XP Home, SP3, IE8 and Firefox as default browser.

On IE, some pages with reference images are not being shown.
Example ;- Google Desktop Gadgets. Website comes up with no problem, but only a few images are shown, the rest are simply blank squares with a red cross in the top left corner.

Firefox - no problems at all, every image is shown.

What do I have to do to get IE to show these images ?

If it is anything other than a minor manual adjustment on IE, then I have a very simple solution needing no effort at all except a mouse click - USE FIREFOX.
