I'm in deep trouble

I recently added a 1TB hard drive to my exsisting 500GB. But when I got it home I discovered that half of my files were missing. Can anyone please me how to either manually retrieve them or which programs I need to download.

First, don't do anything to those drives. If they are Data drives (No OS on them) then disconnect them.

Next, see if you have any type of malware and fix it.

Next, look for recovery software. It is important that you remove them from the equation first and fix whatever caused the problem.

Where are the files missing from? (Which drive)
What kinds of files? (Archival/Desktop/etc.)

Uh, I lost the A-N folders and there contents in My Documents on the C: drive.

I've run a dozen scans for malware and viruses but haven't found anything.

Can you recommend a free recovery program I can download?

I'm short on cash and don't have a credit card. Thanks for the help.
