Exclamation How to tell if my pc is 32-bit or 64-bit?

Hi,

Someone game me this desktop to fix:
HP Pavilion a6200n PC (GN556AA) specifications - HP Home & Home Office Products

It had vista on it, but it got corrupted, and I installed windows xp professional 32-bit on it.

But it expired, and I want to install windows 7 on it. But I don't know if it was originally a 32-bit or 64-bit. Its not on the specifications page either nor on the desktop sticker. I would prefer to get the 64 bit windows 7, but I need to know if it will work on this desktop.

I was also going to run this
Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor - Download - Microsoft Windows
to tell if the pc can run windows 7.

I know you can't install a 64-bit OS on a 32-bit OS, and if I check xp settings, it will say 32-bit, but it doesn't tell me if the computer itself can handle a 64 bit OS.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Looks like it's a 64 bit machine.

The "AMD Athlon 64 x2 5000" is 64 bit capable CPU.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/system-requirements

You also need 2GB of RAM or more to install the X64 version

Yes it does, you just have to paste it into the address bar manually. For some reason, Chrome doesn't seem to like the "http://" at the beginning.

Getting off-topic, but it's not related to Chrome. It's because the [url] tag was misused.

Instead of:
Code:
[ URL="Win7 Minimum Requirements"]http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/system-requirements[/URL ]
Use:
Code:
[ url=http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/system-requirements]Win7 Minimum Requirements[/url ]
([url] tag broken on purpose to show what's going on. )
