Default Help with Video editing and Conversion Software

Hi all,

I need some suggestions for the following if anyone has any.

1. I have pinnacle studio for video editing. Is there a better software, easier software for that?

2. I have the need to convert .mov and .avi to .mpg or .mp2 files. Is there anything from microsoft or freeware that I can use for that? Or is there a nice, easy to use software that you can purchase inexpensivly?

3. Is it possible to compress or adjust the volume of short videos? If so how?

4. If a file that seems like an .mpg file (that's what it says) won't play or won't play correctly in windows media player 11 on vista ...what would the problem be?

Thanks guys!

Thanks for the info. Which codec should I download from there and can I edit files from a different source in windows movie maker.

Let me explain. I've been tasked at work to edit some short commercials. As of now I'm failing miserably. lol

I guess my main thing is converting and compression. If I could do that with a free quicktime or windows download or add on it would be the best.
