help vector linux won't mount floppy or cdrom drive

i am new at linux and i just installed vector linux 4.0 soho ed. whenever i try to mount the floppy drive it gives me this error/ Could not mount device.
the rported error was: mount: you must specify the filesystem type
I tried this command but it didn't work/ mount -t msdos /dev/fdo /mnt/floppy
if it helps any i am using the ext3 file system for vector linux thanks
