Im setting up my file server and I want to get RAID 1 mirroring. Im using Mandrake Linux 10 and im wondering if I should use RAID software handling instead of paying for a RAID controller chip and worrying about hardware settings. Im on www.newegg.com and im looking at RAID controller cards and alot of them say they support Linux and some say they support Red Hat Linux. How will i know for sure if it will run on Mandrake Linux? I dont really want to pay money for something that won't run on my OS. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction. Im really quite frusterated. All the cheap cards either are listed as running on Red Hat Linux and the ones that run on Linux in general are Serial ATA which I dont have. My luck is really bad... Should I just go with RAID software? Is it reliable?
