safemode is one thing you can try.
another thing is to check the background processes.
Hit control + shift + escape -> go to the process tap. See if there is anything chrome related open. If so, close them and try uninstalling again.
as Bk stated updating plugins might work. Also you might have some other useless plugin that causes the problem. Most laptops i get in to look at at work has a lot of useless plugins that they have installed by forgetting to uncheck the "do you want to try this software" when installing free programs.
