Good Operating system for bad computers

i have a intel pentium 2.80 ghz cpu and 2.75 gb of ram, i need a good operating system that will go fast i have windows xp but it is slow

Hello here is a more detailed explanation on what i am looking for... i have a dell dimension 5150 with an intel pentium 4 CPU 2.80GHz (2 CPUs) with 2814MB of ram (2.75 GB) running windows xp home edition version 2002 service pack 3. it runs REALLY slow... i want to be able to play minecraft and saubratten on it, is there any operating system i can switch to like or based off the windows platform. i had windows vista and it went fast (Sometimes lag spikes) but it crashed so i though windows xp would be even faster should i go back windows vista? or is there a way to spped up windows xp

That is an old system. The best you could do to make it run faster is to go back to vista or even back to win98se. I had an E521 and the most it would run was XP and it was struggling to run that. They're just old and slow.
