Default format error

i was trying to install win xp pro on my friends pc who currently has xp home edition, but when i tryed to format his hard drive i kept getting this error message:::
"setup is unable to perform the requested operation on the selected partition. This partition contains temporary setup files that are required to complete the installation."

so i could delete the current partitioned space
please if any one could give me some help or tips, it would be very appreciated.

did you stop the installation of Windows when it was installing? try and install windows then restart boot of the disk again then format your drive.
