Default Flash drive Shortcut virus

A clients flash drive has a shortcut icon virus on it but also has important data...
I want to recover the data and eliminate the virus also.The antivirus might remove everything ...any suggestions

Anti virus programs only remove viruses it would not delete every thing

An antivirus would only delete personal files if they were infected with a virus.... One way to check is to copy all data to an external Hard drive then on your computer right click the HD (once everything has been copied) and you can run your antivirus on just the hard drive and it will see if those files are infected. If not hen your good to go and now have a second copy of the data for backup purposes if they need it

I would plug it into my Kubuntu Laptop and backup the data from there.
Then i'll just format the flash drive and copy the important files back again.
