Dpi settings

Hello,
I want to change the dpi of an image using microsoft photo editor. However when I go to the 'properties' section the resoltion is set at dots/cm rather than dpi.
I'm wondering how I can change this setting to dpi.
Somone suggested changing the units under image/size to inches, this however was not the sollution.
Alternatively, does anyone know if I can just set the dots/cm in ratio to the dpi I want. Eg if I want 300dpi could I just set it at 120 dots/cm?

Well if DPI means Dots Per Inch, and you have an option of Dots Per Centimeter, of course you could do some conversions to change the DPC to your DPI.

If you want 300 DPI, you need to change that to DPC. Like so,

300 dots/in * (1in/2.2cm) = 136 + 36/99 dots/cm

Rinse and repeat for any other DPI you want.
