Good Tuesday Afternoon All,
I am new and hope this thread is posted correctly. Here is my problem: Can you tell me what this represents please,
c:\Hsers\Admin\Downloads\9inTn'lsymbols.xar
When I get graphics, videos or other info I must download when I click on the download link, here is the error message I get:

C:Users\Admin\Downloads\9inTn'lsymbols.xar

The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see The application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.

What is all this and where can I find the "application event log or sxstrace.exe tool"? What does all of this mean? As you can see, I am not computer literate. I alwo want to learn how and when I shoud create folders and when I should enter data? Thank you all.

I take it you have already asked this question on the talkgraphics forum. I cannot help you I'm afraid with your query. Somebody on here may be able to help and I am not suggesting that you don't pursue your query on here but I would advise you to carry on with your thread on the talkgraphics forum as well.

Yes sir, I did ask for assistance on Talk Graphics, but no one seems to know the answer. I assumed that coming here to a computer forum might be a preferred way to go. I will wait to see what happens here. Sometimes, those folk who have learned about computers and are computer savy may not mind providing an answer to my problem. I am persistant and just want some help with this. I would love help wherever I can get it.

I'm not trying to discourage you from asking here. You could be right that someone knows the answer on this board. But you have a graphics problem using Xara (I think) and others who, specifically, use programs like Xara might be better placed to answer your question. I did try Xara a long long time ago in the days of the Commodore Amiga but I found it way too complicate even back then. I have a similar problem with Paint Shop Pro 9 and Adobe Photoshop today. Having said that I only tend to dabble in graphics and video occasionally. But yeah persevere on here as I have said but ALSO ask on the specialist forums. I must admit that my usual response when I get problems I cannot solve is a complete, clean, reinstall of my computer and all the programs. A bit extreme but it, usually, works for me.

Can you clarify the question?

This concerns Xara?
when you load the application is fails to start stating that error?
have you installed the program properly? - where is it installed?

it seems strange that it is trying to open something from your admin downloads folder. (I assume that your username (i.e who you are logged in as is not admin.)

Where did you get your copy of Xara?

sxstrace is a debugging tool that would let you step through the application stack to find the error, it is unlikely to be useful for you in this scenario.

Good Wed Morning Pete.1, Root and All,
As I've tried to explain, I am almost totally ignorant when it comes to understanding computer language and tech stuff. I have not idea how:
C:\Users\Admin\Downloads\9inTn'lsymbols.xar was set up. I never sat down and decided to set this up because I don't know what it means or what it does. Does anyone know? Is this called a directory? I have no idea. However, I assume that the C: in the front means that this is my C drive where all new apps, etc, goes. Can I change this so that downloads go to one of the other drives (d, f, and g) which are all larger drives with more room than my C drive. Thanks Pete.1 and Root. Believe me, I appreciate you both reaching out to help me understand what happens when I turn on my PC.

Did this work correctly at one time and only started failing at some point or did it always have this issue.

Have you tried uninstalling, rebooting the computer and then re-installing Xara?

Apparently this may be cause if some other application has corrupted something!

three area couple of suggestions of commands to use to try to fix it in that thread.

It looks like root is right. It's most likely an issue with the C++ redistributables. They're files that update the code for the computer, and usually get installed with games and heavy duty work programs, really any program that uses the special visual C studio C++ coding language. Try reinstalling the latest.

Strollin is probably right as well, since reinstalling would probably reinstall the necessary C++ redistributables.

The latest C++ files can be found here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads

Root, Strolling and CortB, I thank you for your support. I am thankful being a little patient in order to wait for additional help. I purchased a new computer several months ago to help my dear wife with our real school. My primary function was to construct a website for our school. I used a WYSIWYG program that required no coding, etc. I struggled through constructing the website, but never learned basic stuff about computers in general. That's why I have tons of stuff on my desktop. I did not know you could put stuff in Folders, etc. I really want to learn computer basics so I will know where programs are going when I purchase new stuff to put on my computer. Right now I have a C:, D:, F:, and G drive. Of course the computer has an E: drive for CD's.
CortB, I tried to respond to your private message, but could not because I am not a trusted member yet. I sure to appreciate the link you provided to "Windows Basics", "Working with Files". This is great basic stuff. I am going to go through it as soon as I get off my computer. I will be back on line soon.

bob :)
