Hi Everybody!
Newbiew Here!

I have just got a 2nd hand IBM Thinkpad, running Win XP.

Each time I switch it on, I get a BIOS error message and I have to go into the BIOS and enter the date and time.
Is this easily fixed?

Many Thanks for any replies

Sorry, just noticed that the date on the clock (in Windows on task bar) is incorrect.
I shall try and set that and re-boot !

sounds like your BIOS battery is running low so the information is lost each time you restart because the BIOS looses power for a bit.

If you was a regular computer I'd say whip open the case and put in a new battery (they are only cheap coin cells).
but with laptops I'm not sure if they are removable or soldered to the board, or how you will invalidate your warrenty by opening it up...
I'd say the best thing to do would be to get onto the manufacturer about this problem.

Hi and mant thanks for your reply!

It is a 2nd hand one from e-bay.

It isn't soldered, just clips in, so I will go buy a replacement and see if that works!

Thanks again {>

Just replaced the battery and I'm still getting the same errors
1) Check date and time
2) check sum = bad

Any ideas anyone?
