Creating advanced formatted partitions on a WD Caviar Green

All I want to do is creating 4 partitions on a Western Digital Caviar Green and install XP on one of these without having problems with the advanced format.
Even after hours of googling, it's still not clear to me how to do it without having to register anywhere or paying extra money.
As I've read so far, I could just use linux (I have puppy linux on a CD) to create aligned partitions. And then I could just install XP without ever having to worry about the advanced format because it is already aligned by linux. Is this correct?

I hope you can help me in this case.

The Western Digital Align software is required to get the drive to the way you want it. It's a free download from Western Digital.

Thank you. I'll take this one now to align the partitions created with the XP installation.
