Default Converting format

I have used Total Video Converter to convert video files into AVI files so I can play them on my TV. My problem is that when I convert an MKV file to AVI it says on my TV unsupported data, even though I have done nothing different. I am asking if anyone knows why my TV wont support AVI from MKV but will support AVI from any other format. Also if there is a solution please.

AVI is just a container. Reality is that there are many sub-formats in the AVI domain that it's likely defaulting to one that the TV can't play. Try using FreeMake to convert, you can specify which codecs you want to encode to under the AVI blanket and you can keep trying that until you find one that works.

In fact there are many other free video converter available in the market that lets you choose codec that you want to encode your files to.
