For about a month, my computer was intermittently running poorly, showing signs such as:
- Slow bootup (like 5 minutes)
- Programs freezing
- Windows freezing

Last week, my computer froze up and on reboot, ran chkdsk automatically. It found tons (hundreds?) of errors. After the errors were fixed, my computer ran much better.

So, today my computer started exhibiting the same signs, so I ran check disk again. Sure enough, it found errors, though not as many this time.

Aside from a hard drive going bad, what might be causing this?

My computer: Windows Vista, 3 GB RAM, Intel Core Duo quad core 2.x ghz.

It probably is the hard disk, did chkdsk fix all the errors? how old is it?

Could be a virus/malware of some kind, you tried running scans.

im sure its your hard-drive causing these issues. Your best bet would be to buy a new hard-drive and clone your existing hard-drive to the new one
