he tried it on two different computers. unless they use the same hard disk, i don't think its that...

it should work even with gnu linux on the systems, though it might kill whatever bootloader you have.

Yeah. Precisely. I mean, I've installed Windows over GNU/Linux before and never had a problem. Really weird.

Just make a check list of what you need for a windows install and check em off to narrow down the problem?

Partitions
Bios (set cd to boot before hd)
Good XP disk
Cd key
hard drive space...

you get the idea.

Lightbulb try this one

I have had the same problem. Here's my solution. Kind of weird but worked for me. 1. get a win98 startup floppy, 2. run fdisk and delete the partition, create the partition, 3. format c: , 4. install win98, 5. from win98 interface run your WinXP CD.
