What about Fraps? It's commercial, but works great.
As for the size, it has to be big. Capturing video/audio real time is better be taken uncompressed to preventing frame skipping or audio from going out of sync for high quality shots. Maybe even low quality shots could be affected.
I have actually tried Hypercam in the past. I dont really like it. I dont know why, because it does work, but it just doesnt sit well with me. Well, that and it produces very laggy videos...
