Default AVI to DVD

Does anyone have any good techniques or programs for going from AVI (DivX) to a DVD format that is able to play on DVD players? I know DVD to AVI is easy. Not so sure about the other way around.

I follow this guide to do it:

Works, but I'd recommend not running anything on your computer while it converts or the audio may be off sync. (personal experience) Also, it will take a while depending on your computer's specs. It's probably best to leave it overnight.

I gave that same guide to my friend and he said that when he tried to watch the DVD in his player all that came was a black screen but when he played it on his laptop it worked fine.

Sounds like something might have been wrong with the codecs. I use that guide and it works fine.

DVD Santa is a decent program if you are willing to pay for it / pirate it. If not, here's another guide with a different program:
