Hi guys I'm taking a new course in Cisco iOS for routers and switches and I'm just wondering is the other brands that offer managed switches have more or less the same operating system ?

If you're asking if (for example) the interface for a Cisco managed switch is the same as a FortiNet managed switch interface, then the answer is no. That's not to say that NOTHING is the same as Cisco though.

(AFAIK) Many of the major brands have their own platform, GUI, command syntax... everything, while a majority of the smaller ones just use open source or Cisco similar platforms.

So i f I learn to setup Cisco switches will I be able to set up other managed switches ?

The most commonly used managed switches (from my experience) In Britain are Dell PowerConnect and Cisco Catalyst. PowerConnect is very straightforward, Cisco is less so but you're taking a course in that one so I'm sure youll be fine! :L
