What program is AIM compatible, and uses the least amount of resources?

Well, you can always try AIM express. It just opens up an internet browser window with your buddy list, and the IM windows are also browser windows.
Try it here: https://my.screenname.aol.com/_cqr/l...WebSuite-AimEx I don't like it because it is a bit unstable, but it works pretty well. |

Pidgin (formally gaim) is an open source client compatible with the AIM protocol as well as others MSN, Jabber, Yahoo, IRC, ICQ...
Not sure how much "less" resource intensive it'd be. Could be a valid solution though, so check it out. http://pidgin.im/pidgin/home/

Well one could argue it's less intensive. If you ran Yahoo, MSN, AIM, or other clients alone instead of having a central client that handles them all you'd be using a lot more resources.
Also you don't have the ads, or the unnecessary features (1000 different smiley faces ect). But you also have the option to plug-in features you want too. Eithe way, I guess it's really up to the user as it's their preference.

Not sure how browser clients relate when it comes to resources, but www.meebo.com can run just about any IM client.
