You're not missing anything. The best MP3 player I've ever used by far is the Rio Karma (it's way smaller than it looks). Unfortunately, they have stopped making them, but their newer Carbons are really nice too (but it sacrifices some of the space).

I like the Rio Carbon more. It looks nicer. Oh by the way, Rio MP3 players will probably be really cheap now, because they've quit the MP3 business. Too much competition.
 
i just want bigger memory for my phone (built in mp3 player)

bummer is though sony products dont come cheap
 
For price to storage space, the Nano isn't worth it. The Nano is 4gb and it's $250, the 20gb iPod is $300. It's only $50 more and you have 5 times the space. But then again, Solid State Storage is more expensive...

All I'm concerned about is the fact that it's so easy to break it...it's like, "SNAP!"
