Most computers I got in donations was rebuilt from given boards, pieces laying around and had to buy some RAM.
The real donation I got was a Duron 1GHZ, 128MB RAM PC133, 30GB HDD, 52X CD Drive and onboard GPU.

The one I found in the garbage was
:
Athlon 1GHZ
256MB RAM PC-133
Geforce 2 MX 400 64MB
52X CD drive
No HDD

The problem was a bad PSU. Changed, got a new heatsink to replace the heatsinkless one, and it worked. I still regret that I sold it for 50 bucks. I would have wanted 125.

All other PCs I found in the garbage (except the IBM PII) was just AT powered sh!t Pentiums ranging from 60-133. Some 486, 386 and even a 286! The other PC I got was a PowerPC. Never got a beefy one afterwards. Screens though, I'm more lucky. I find 17" no probs. I even found a working laser printer, and still have it.

I think I should put some signs to call my number when they do that. I'm thinking of recyling them and either to give them away to the used local shop I know, or sell them for super cheap (10 bucks for a PII 350).

I've never found a system lying on the street...
But I have been given a few for free. Not that their any good, since 2 of them are sitting in the warddrobe gathering dust.

One with Windows 95 which it doesn't seem to want to get rid of

The minimum requirements I demand for PCs to be resold are as follows:

Intel/AMd/VIA compatible x86 at 300MHz or greater
SDRAM or higher
At least 4.3GB or higher drive
GPUs higher than 4MB in size
PSUs higher than 100W (mATX 100-450W and ATX from 200-2500W)
ATX form factor for use, AT or better for salvaging.
PCI Slot 1 motherboad or better
USB

my prices go up in increments of 5 or 10 just to make it less complicated, instead of $12, I'd go $15, instead of $17 I'd go $20... I don't really have a pricing system besides that, it's just whatever I feel like pricing it at the time, if it doesn't sell for awhile it will go down in price.

I now usually just take P1-PII up to 350MHz systems and make them work and give them away to someone that doesn't have a whole bunch of money and will come to my house to pick it up. Believe it or not, it's very hard to actually give a PC away. I could get about 5 responses for it at first and no one will reply back, then I get several more, and 2 weeks later the person that really wants it finally comes to pick it up...

BTW, I sell and get donations from craigslist. It a great place to put a wanted ad for free PCs if you got a site for your area.
