my integrated one is 54 mbits. im buying this one because it claims to accelerate it 300%

It's not an 802.11n adapter, so it's hardly using the latest and greatest technology. It has got quite a high power rating though - which leads me to suspect that their claimed speed increase comes from a poor signal strength being boosted to being usable. If that's the problem you're having, then fair enough it might well help. If you've got a good strength already then it'll most likely not do a thing.

OP: Can you get a PCI adapter? They are much better. Newegg has tons:
