Windows 7: Desktop and More

Desktop
After you are done installing, you are at your desktop! The only thing you may notice that is different (versus Vista) is the taskbar. It looks way more sleek and shiny and is more compact, allowing you to have more programs open at a time without grouping them together.
Start Menu/Desktop Right-Click
In this image, we look at the new start bar. Instead of having the recent documents on the right side, it is now associated with whatever program with an arrow next to it.
When you right click on the desktop, there isn't a “personalization†menu. You get Screen Resolution, Gadgets, and Personalize. At screen resolution, you can adjust display settings. In gadgets, you can drag what you would normally see in the Windows Sidebar, but you can put them wherever you want on your desktop. In personalize, you can change theme settings, like desktop icons, wallpaper, screensaver, etc.

Gadgets
The gadgets control panel is just like the one in Vista's Sidebar. You can simply click on a gadget, and drag it on to your desktop, and it is instantly activated. You can also freely move them wherever you would like.
Screen Resolution/Displays
Here, you can change enable multiple displays and change the resolution of each display. Instead of being able to only extend a secondary monitor, you can now clone it with your primary display.
Desktop Icons
If you enable the other icons on your desktop and open them, this is what they look like. The overall folder window looks similar to that of Vista, but on the left sidebar, you get “easy†access to your most important files.
Windows 7 has a new thing called “Librariesâ€, where it stores all of whatever (lol), like music, documents, pictures, games, etc.
The control panel interface looks pretty similar to Vista's control panel.

Taskbar Properties
The first tab is the taskbar properties. From here, you can lock the taskbar, hide the taskbar, or use small icons instead of them being big. You can also customize what notifications icons are visible.

Internet Explorer 8
Still in Beta 2 form, Internet Explorer 8 is quite a powerful web browser. Speeds are amazingly fast, and stability is way better than any other version of Internet Explorer.

Notepad, Paint, Wordpad, Calculator
These 4 applications have shipped with every Windows operating system since Windows 95 (maybe 3.1?). They have remained the same for years, until now.
Paint receives a beautiful facelift and is more user-friendly.
The same goes for Wordpad.
Notepad actually remains the same.
Calculator has received many new enhancements, none of which we will list because nobody probably uses the other features.
WMP 12
The setup screen is similar to that of WMP11.

Windows Media Player has receive a nice facelift. The interface is more “light†and is easier than ever to navigate through.
