Why Soldiers need Body armour

the sight thing is true. However the ranges they shoot at are short. The difference between 200m and 300m isn't that big. Again, setting the sights for the right range makes a bigger difference at longer range. The difference from 500m to 600m is a lot bigger than the difference from 200m to 300m.

And as for the wind. I'm guessing at something like 200m it will move the bullet maybe around 2mm. (talking about calm wind, if it's like a storm or something then it of course has a bigger effect) It won't make the difference between a hit and a miss.

Btw all this is just more or less guessing, I only shoot at targets around 100 meters so don't know too much about longer ranges.

the sniper could have done the lick your finger trick, and just shot for that side of the guys head. any clue exactly where on the torso he was aiming for?

and it moved maybe 1 inche off center, which is enough accuracy to aim for the head.

well it would have probably been accurate enough to hit the head. The armor plate is a little bit bigger than a head, but not much bigger. (of course depends on the size of the plate, they do come in different sizes but afaik most are pretty small.
