Default What do you think i should do?

I just got my first job and the first thing i'm buying is computer parts. Now i have 2 options:

1.Upgrade the family computer (just bought for $2000 canadian)everything is good but graphics, RAM, and sound. It would cost about $1000 to upgrade that stuff, and after i save up more money build a custom computer and transfer that stuff over to it.

2.Build my own computer for about $1800 canadian, with only the basics. It won't be able to play all the new games but at least it will be mine.

I know in the end it's my decision, but i would like some input and what to do.

I don't know the exact ratio of us dollar bv. canadian but I'm sure it's still plenty.

1,000 bucks to upgrade RAM, GPU and sound? no way...you could get away wth a nice gpu, sound system and a gig of ram for 400-500 dollars..

1,800 bucks could make an OWNAGE computer, you just have to buy the right stuff and not overkill everything.

Im not really going to tell you which way to go, I'm just saying that you have plenty of money to make/upgrade a nice computer.

Now, unless my figures are totally off and the canadian dollar is worth like .50 in us...the forget what I said, kik.

Which leaves you with 174 to either upgrade that PC ^^^ (Although you don't really need to-That system will run Doom 3 and Half life 2 easily) or buy a monitor or something.....

Yeah your family computer is good, except for that built in video card which is whats making games run slow. I'm surprised it runs Half life 2 at all!

Yes that computer is good that you are wanting, though that CPU is very expensive for only a .5Ghz boost compared to getting something like a 3500+, though its your choice.
As for the graphics card, that is very powerful, so yeah your getting a really powerful system there

I don't get how poasi gave you information though and you didn't say thanks to him as it must have took quite a while to gather, and still came up with custom specs of your own anyway.

On a good note though, that will run things for a very long time, maybe a few years, and should leave you room to update later

EDIT: poasi I think Dishdog meant the system he has now, not the custom parts you considered, and it would build a good system, and for only 500 quid!

Your right. Thank you poasi for taking the time to look up custom parts for me, I already had all the custom parts for my computer picked out awhile ago, but any suggestions are still welcome.

So does anybody have any thoughts on what choice i should do?
