I think the number one cause of the red-ring is the GPU the 360 features. Try putting new thermal compound on it when you get your next 360. Lots of people say that changing the stock thermal compound has prevented the GPU from overheating and red-ringing. Perhaps I am wrong but this is what I have heard.
