no, it just doubles the bandwidth, 2.0 cards are compatible with 1.0 slots, and 2.0 cards are compatible with 1.0 slots, you just sacrifice the bandwidth.

Basically the same concept of running a 8X AGP card in a 4X slot. It still works but only runs at 4X.

Thing is: I don't upgrade once something new is on the market. I stick with the old stuff. My board can handle a 6400+ Black Edition and it's an actual Geforce 611 chipset (Nforce 430)
