Starting a business

Yeah.. you think about that one...
This is a forum for debate & comments & people can express their opinions if they wish to.
My interpretation of cboucher comment was not rude at all, if any his reply was helpful as parents guidance would be beneficial to the OP.

Oops I'm sorry I couldn't reply quicker but I was extremely busy with my finals and now Its officially over!! Anyways, here are my answers to what I can answer you:
1) I live in UAE (United Arab Emirates) (where Dubai is...), I was born here but my nationality isn't Emirati because here you should be part of the Emirati family to be considered an official citizen (In case you're researching the emirati law, I am considered a resident but nit a citizen)

2) I am particulary interested in programming, I have very basic knowledge in Python, but I'm planning to learn more abiut Java and then Android apps and this business could be an opportunity to learn that. I also have over 4 years experience in Photoshop (creating logos and some cool photo edits) and over 2 years experience in Sony Vegas Pro (I mostly use it for creating visual effects, something I am really interseted in.)
3) I don't think the law would mind if the business was online but if it was a physical business that actually sell stuff, then I would need a true citizen to write the business in his/her name but you usually need to pay them each year a specific amout or they get part of the shares while doing nothing :/
4) I haven't done any market research because I'm still unsure about what my business would be about, and that is exactly why I asked you, to guide me.

I hope I answered all your questions, I will be online often since the vacation officially started!! YAAY!!

Great! But...

...if you're going to start a business you need to be proficient in things *before* taking on clients, you can't start a business to learn the basics. Sure, you'll learn as you go anywhere you work, but you have to still be able to do the stuff with confidence straight off. Imagine if your local hospital was full of people who worked there because they wanted to learn more about being doctors for instance - not a recipe for success!

My advice - forget the business idea in programming for now, and concentrate this summer on learning some more programming. If you're truly set on doing this then this will help you much more in the long run, and doesn't prohibit you from starting a business when you're more proficient in the future.

I appreciate this probably isn't what you wanted to hear, but I honestly think with the experience you've outlined, as well as the time frame, you're not yet proficient enough to start a business specialising in any of the areas you've outlined. Keep working though, and you will get to that point I'm sure!

simple answer.
www.rentacoder.com

Pick some easy projects, build up a port folio.
Don't expect to get rich any time soon.

You'll likely work for well below minimum wage, and well well below any kind of living wage.

Once you've built up experience, a portfolio good feedback rating and experience on the site you'll be able to up your prices a bit.

Thanks for advice, I will certainly further my education in programming, however, what if the business I could start didn't have to be about programming, I mean blogs for example? What would you think if I made a blog about latest technology news and talk a little about psychology since I'mm interseted in that too

Sure, that'd be a great thing to do - but how will you make any money out of it? People don't even pay to read top news sites and blogs these days, they're definitely not going to pay to read yours...

I meant with Ads on the sides once I get a lot of readers I could use Google AdSense and Google will pay me a small amount depending on the ads clicks

Sure, but don't forget you'll need a significant amount of viewers to generate *any* revenue, and until you get something like $100 amassed in clicks (from memory) then Google won't pay out anything. Then factor in hosting costs, unless you can find a good free host who lets you have your own ads (unlikely)... you're not going to make much if any money this way.

blogger give away free blog hosting.
they are also pretty fine about letting you host ads on your blog.

you're still not going to get rich quick.

When writing a blog you get two options, you either copy content (be prepared to never reach a search result as your content is not original), or you need to write really good and really original content, -though this will take time. (so you may end up getting more per hour working at burger king!)

Then there is the google ads, for the past around 6 years I've kept a blog, the theme of the blog is basically how to do stuff, and everything is covered from how to make a flower bed, how to build speakers to how to build embedded software, or how to make circuits. (so the blogs mostly take the format of lessons).

The content is all original, it's reasonably quality, (I have had a comment left by a professor at an Indian university saying that he'd wanted to use my blog posted lesson on logic reductions to teach a class.

In my adsense account: $0.83 over six years.

and when I turn off my ad blocker and view my site I can see the ads, but they have nothing to do with my site content, google is supposed to serve content specific ads,

-the idea is, that if you're running a music review site, you'll want ads served for record stores, that way you have ads that your readers are likely to be interested to see, (so you are happy because your ads are relevant), the relevancy of the ads affects the user -users are happier to see relevant ads, and they are more likely to click adverts. -which earns you money, and of course the shop who are paying google to display ads, are supposed to say where they are happy for their ads to be displayed, -they should want them to be served in relevant sites to increase click through chances. the advertising shop pays every time an advert is displayed.
google only pay you every time an advert is clicked.

Google aren't serving relevant ads, they are just sitting in the middle putting pointless ads that none of my readers would want to see onto my page, nobody clicks them.
so I have no benefit (no click so no earnings), my readers have no benefit (no targetted advertising introducing them to things that they may like), the people who wanted their adverts online have no benefit because google don't target them like they said they would (so no additional customers for them).
The only people benefiting are google, sitting in the middle creaming in profit for displaying useless ads. (if you sign in to ad sense to advertise it costs starting from around 10p per advert) if I only get 20 views per day, google are making a few quid, (and I'm getting nothing)

Admittedly I could load up the page with more ads, for different ad agencies, but I don't want to do that. there is only one add in a sidebar on the blog, to be honest it's more interesting to use for getting an idea of the people visiting the blog. (example half don't see the ads due to script block/ghostery or similar).

Long story short.
you can do online "journalism", writing blog articles. but don't expect to get rich off it.
