A booming economy, brand new markets, reducing the tension between governments, everything. think of it.
I'm figuring that most closet growers would jump at the chance to be legit and be able to do business out in the open, not having to deal with the criminal element anymore.

I certainly would IF I did grow marijuana illegally. Plus it's a hell of a lot safer.

I'm sure some people would buy from the stores only because they are afraid of getting poisoned or something like that.

Well people would soon find out that closet growing legally or illegally would soon find out that the growers make sure they have the best product available. Probably better than store quality crop too.

People are still going to buy it under the table. I mean, once you add taxes in, it makes it more expensive for the consumer. If they can get it somewhere tax free (at a significantly cheaper rate), they will. Hence, under-the-table growers will still be widespread and will profit because of the demand from buyers that want to save some cash. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if closet growers INCREASE if they legalized and taxed it. More business for them because they can beat "legit" sellers' prices and consumers love deals.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought this is what I was saying the past 3 posts. Correct me if I'm wrong??

Ok, then explain to me why bootlegging alcohol didn't increase after Prohibition was lifted. Why would anyone risk going to jail just to save a couple of bucks? And who says it would be cheaper? Small, boutique type shops are always more expensive then large chain stores because large chain stores can afford to buy in bulk at a significantly lower cost and thus, sell it cheaper (tax or no tax). There is absolutely no way people are going to be able to get it cheaper buying it under the table from some guy growing in his basement when you got huge farms growing field after field of the stuff. Besides, I would bet that most people growing would want to be legit. Why assume all that risk when you don't have to?

Actually, I'm saying the opposite--I'm agreeing with Grant. You are saying that people would want to go legit. I'm saying that if it was legal and taxed, people would not want to go legit because their prices will go up and they will lose money to large 'dope' chains (don't think there would be any though). Hence, consumers, wanting to save money, will still go to the basement pot grower (not legit) to get their marijuana cheaper.

1) Did you not read my post about alcohol?
2) I doubt Walmart is going to sell pot.
3) People will do a lot to save money...riddle me this: wtf do people steal gum? Exactly my damn point. Many other points can be made if you need them.
4) Do you really think we're going to have fields upon fields of pot growing? So some f-tard can just come and steal it? Or are we going to barb/electric fence the fields and hire cops to protect them? Again, .
5) No, most people probably would not want to be legit. Being legit is always more complicated than not. You've got a lot to deal with going legit. Under the table is pretty easy--you grow it, you sell it, you get money. Battabing, battaboom.

Bottom line here people, I'm not saying that I don't agree with you that in a PERFECT WORLD this would be a stupendous idea! But it's not a perfect world. There are and would be too many loopholes. There's absolutely no way that a tax on legal mary j. would eliminate the entire national debt in this country. Simple as that. Won't happen. As to whether or not they do end up legalizing it, I could care less--that's not where I'm coming from. I'm not one of those "ZOMG don't legalize WTFFFF!!! You are nuts!!!" people.

If I was buying marijuana, I'd rather buy it from a government regulated company rather than the gang member down by the street.
