You're correct, it was a five vehicle convoy, but others must have been damaged because the convoy leader, a Captain was also killed

very true, but by all means he could have been in that one tank. but could doesn't nessisarily mean he was. its hard to say as it is kinda shrouded in military

watching that video it seems like those piolets were given confilicting intel. originally they were told no friendlies in the area, then after original gun-run they got the message.... US intel at its best....
