You only need the first CD for the OS. The rest is extra stuff that you can choose to install.

You generally get them all, then go through the checklist. Its only for people who want tons of stuff, so it would be easier/faster then using apt-get

You just need the first Debian disc. The rest are only if you need some additional tools for programming and running a server. I personally would just get the first disc and if there are any other packages needed, just download them after Debian is installed.

I'm gonna try Debian. I've used Ubuntu off and on and could never add it to a domain. I'll see what happens with Debian. Thanks for the help guys.

YAY

If you want it to look epic cool, install enlightenment (package name is e17 IIRC)

You will have to add their server to the repository list for apt-get or manually install the program. Your choice.

BTW the default e17 skin is pretty meh. Get one with awesome effects.

FreeBSD, ReactOS, Sun Solaris are three of various flavors.

RactOS is made as a Windows replacement OS, but it's buggy
