It looks very nice. The ones I have seen are at sams and Best Buy and don't look anything like it.

Damn. 5,000,000:1 Thats impressive. I know it has to be some sort of dynamic contrast thingy, but still... wow.

They're using a model that they produced in 2008. Manufacturers do it all the time to show how their panels have advanced.

Random idiot question.

Is it true that plasmas offer better picture quality, but you need to change the bulb every few years?

Oh I see. That is more like the ones that Best buy has, though they are a bit different. I guess I learned something here... Best Buy has ancient TVs.

Plasma televisions don't have bulbs, they have phosphors which can not be replaced.

DLPs used to have better picteure quality than LCDs and they had a bulb which costs like $300+

LCDs are overtaking them now though.

With a plasma, it has a half-life, at which point the brightness is half of what it was before. It will eventually fade pretty bad, but this is like 10+ years of normal use now before it really gets bad.

Yeah. The life of LCDs and Plasmas are pretty neck and neck from when I last researched. 60,000 hours or so, right? I can't remember for sure.

I thought it was like 50,000 hours of backlight. I assume the display would be useless if the backlight has gone out.

So does this mean when a plasma's phosphors burn out or die or whatever the tv is basically dead?

How long does it typically take for this to happen?
