Default PS3 won't play some games in HD

My TV is a Sony Bravia LCD which supports 1080i HD and games such as Gran Turismo 5 and MGS4 will play at 1080i. Other games such as ProStreet, Soul Calibur 4 & Motorstorm all state that they can go up to 720p but all 3 play in 576i for some reason and I can't work out how to make them play in 720p, I looked through the settings, tried lowering the PS3 setting from 1080i to 720p and this did nothing either. Any ideas? Thanks.

My TV states it is 1080i, but the PS3 outputs at 1080p, and the resulting image is actually a lot clearer than it is when set to 720p. Even my TV reads it as a 1080p source.

If you are using HDMI, it shouldn't be having any issues.

Try resetting the PS3 by turning on the PS3 using the touch button, and keeping your finger on it while it is booting. It'll then reset the display, etc
