ok for this music project at school, i had to pick a music genre and describe the history and characteristics, and then write a bio on a band that plays it.

Melodic Death Metal

Melodic death metal is a subgenre of Death or Heavy metal. Although it features some of the same characteristics as Death metal and Heavy metal, such as heavily distorted guitars, and most of the time does not feature screaming but it is present sometimes, mostly in Children of Bodom Songs. It also has a more melodic feel to it, making it a calmer genre for listening purposes. In Melodic Death Metal, the guitars are not that heavy as some might think. The music in melodic death metal consists mainly of harmonic minor scales. There is also usually a keyboardist backing the music making it sound more melodic.

Most melodic death metal bands are from the Scandinavian areas, but there are still these types of band from North America. Melodic death metal was invented in the early 1990's in Sweden and is sometimes called Swedish Metal. After a few years, there were melodic death metal bands that started appearing out of Finland and other neighboring countries. It has increased in popularity in recent years. Some examples of melodic death metal bands are Children of Bodom and In Flames. The bands that pioneered this genre are Dark Tranquility, At The Gates, In Flames, and Carcass, although In Flames was the band that popularized the genre, even though it isn't as mainstream as some other genres.

Melodic death metal, though it originated from the same area as black metal, rarely speaks of Satanism or the downfall of Christianity. It features more “epic” lyrics. Also, Melodic death metal incorporated different types of music such as speed metal, thrash metal, and even classical music to achieve the sound it has.

The instruments mostly found in this type of genre are Electric guitars, usually 2 of them (1 for rhythm and one for lead), bass guitar, drums, and usually a keyboard. The drums in this genre are mostly really fast and have hard beating bass drums. The lead guitar's solos are usually playing fast harmonic minor scales but the rhythm guitar is there to add backing to the lead guitar as the lead guitar would sound bland without it. Sometimes, both guitars play the same thing together but like 3 notes apart and it makes a nice harmonic tone, or they just play the exact same thing. The keyboard in the band is there to add an even more melodic feel to the music.

The appearance of the people playing metal (not only melodic death metal) is somewhat “different” than how you might think a normal person should look. They usually have long hair accompanied by dark clothes. This can be seen in the following picture and many other pictures on this poster.

and the artist...

Children of Bodom

Children of Bodom is a band that originated out of a small town called Espoo, in Finland consisting of Alexi Laiho, Roope Latvala, Janne Wirman, Henkka Seppälä, and Jaska Raatikainen. The genre they play is debated by many people. In the beginning, their genre was leaning more onto the power metal side, but now they play mostly melodic death metal.

Although the band has played several genres, they have always kept their rapid tempos and technical guitar and keyboard solos. They write their songs in English. The main songwrite for Children of Bodom is Alexi Laiho, but he always get support from his other band members.

Alexi Laiho (guitarist) and the drummer Jaska Raatikainen have been friends since childhood, and both had an interest in heavy metal. They later formed the band in 1993 under the name IneartheD and the other members joined and they are still currently playing music, although some of the original members have been replaced because of them moving away, or not being good enough. They have just released their last album.

In 1997, they signed with record label Nuclear Blast and they then changed their name to Children of Bodom, derived from the Lake Bodom murders in Finland around 50 years ago. Their logo is a grim reaper named Roy.

They have released 8 albums, 2 of them being live albums. They tour the world playing their music for people now, and I don't think they will be releasing another album anytime soon.

I can't find a lot wrong with that. :) Make sure your capitals, especially in the first section are correct Death metal, etc.
I like the idea a the grim reaper being called Roy

Your history on Children of Bodom & Melo-Death is correct. If you want though, you could mention that CoB plan on releasing a new album in early 2008. Up to you.
