Playstation 3 Unveiled!

While the new consoles are very powerful, the details relating to their power are very hyped. To say that their graphics power is greater then dual 6800 Ultras is exagerated. Secondly, these new consoles are taking advantage of a brand new technology which is in it's infancy. It is only a matter of time before PC's get this technology and in a much more advanced form. The PS3's coming out in 2006? By then, I would bet that PC's are being produced which easily outperform them (although many will already). The £400 to buy a PS3 in 2006 could be spent on a new graphics card, processor and RAM which are collectively much more powerful.
Companies that make the consoles, Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, are very rich companies which can afford to give money to IBM, ATI etc to develop this new technology for them. However, IBM, ATi, Intel etc make most of their money from the PC market. They can't afford for games consoles to be more powerful then PC's. Therefore, it is only a matter of time after these consoles emerge before PC's get similar technology on a much more advanced/powerful scale (look at the graphics used by architects and special effects editors).
I also like consoles- they are great fun and graphics are not the most important thing. However, as we saw with the PS2, for ultimate gaming the best option is to save the £400 and spend it on the latest PC tech.
