I have a old remington pl-4 chainsaw and it doesn't have a good enough spark for the engine to start. Is there a way to replace/fix the armature and coil currently in it

You should be able to take it apart and clean everything up with some emery cloth to remove any oxidation that may be holding it back.

how would i test the armature & coil with a multimeter

i tried that, i also cleaned everything(contacts, condenser, etc)
