In all seriousness, I'm an audio nerd. I like good sounding audio. I don't know too much about it, but I'm learning. One thing I do know is that MP3s suck. They really suck. So much that when I spend a few grand on a nice sound system I'm going to buy the cds of all the music I like so I can rip them into loss less formats. Now tell me, how is that hurting anyone if I'm taking a test drive of the music for the next 10 years?

Google makes money off of companies paying them to display their sites at the top of their search pages among other things.

How do you expect the record labels to fund the concerts when their primary means of income is basically taken away? Not to mention concert tickets would rise drastically cutting back the number of people willing to go to them.

As for movies yes there will always be movies, but they will be of less quality than they are now because their budgets would be slashed due to the loss of income of DVD sales.

As for those that still like to have the disc, I would bet that if it were legal to download those kind of files it would be very easy to download a high quality copy for free. I am sure those types of people would revert to downloading for free. Not to mention that CD's and DVD's probably wouldn't even exist anymore because no one would purchase them (except maybe a very select few) because the prices would be even higher than they are now to offset the fewer sales that they would have.

It's not the people finding other ways to make money, its the revenue and the jobs that the all of these industries create. How much revenue do you think movies and music bring into the US? How much do you think that these two industries help our economy?

Exactly, Google makes money from advertisements. There are ways to incorporate advertisements in movies and songs, just be creative. If people don't want to listen to a song with an advertisement before and after then they'll pay for the music. Simple.

I agree with what you said, it's necessary. The problem is that as years progress, more and more people will be from the generation that the internet was already around. They'll know they can easily find copies of what they want online. No matter how much industries try to fine or prohibit, the number will continue to increase. So reason with me, isn't it better if the industries begin to find a new way to make their money rather than cut the wings of the internet?

Yes, I definitely agree with you. That is even a good idea I hadn't thought of with the incorporation of advertisements into the "free" download able media.

But that doesn't solve the problem of piracy. They can come up with a way to do things differently but people are still going to want to get that copy without the advertisements, and with torrents and P2P apps they will still be able to. And while it is a step in the right direction (which is a definite plus), I don't think that it will change much.

I don't fully understand what you mean. Are you saying that you want to test out the music before you buy it? If so then there is absolutely (in my opinion) nothing wrong with that because you are doing it with the intent of purchasing the product. Most who download the files are doing it with the intent of getting it for free and not having to pay for it.

Well...what they'd have to do is change the format of the movies/music in the disc to some new, hard to crack. Then they can release MP3 versions with online. It's a complicated matter. You were right. The problem is that they didn't anticipate such things to move onto the computer. Now their task, if they want to keep the industries well alive, is to separate them.

maybe if the record company didn't feel this need to take in so much money then we wouldn't have this problem. If they weren't millionaires they would have the money to pay for the concerts.
