For the past six years I've been the Computer Recycling Project Manager for a not-for-profit organization. The organization's larger mandate is helping people find work and community resources. In our project we rebuild computers for low-income earners and provide opportunities for volunteers to get "Canadian" IT experience working with Sysprep, PXE-booting, Linux, system building, and social skills working with everyone who comes in.

I'm a Systems Administrator for a very public Non-profit company here. Roles are everything from end user support on the network (a job I share with a friend of mine that I also got hired into the position) and tending to staff infrastructure needs as well as hardware upkeep. I work on everything from Dell PowerEdge servers (R710's and such) and Equallogic Storage SANs as well as Dell PowerConnect switches and the Office Communications Servers (support role). Pay sucks, perks don't

I work for a managed services company.

by day I work in a team of microsoft specialists, supporting windows (sometimes desktop when the desktop team escalates a ticket that they can no longer deal with) but mostly server OS, AD/Exchange/DNS etc, SQL server, BES, Citrix, virtualisation on ESX and hyper-V, as well as a few other things (supportting custom applications).

In the evenings (every third week) I work on call shifts where I cover network support, (so supportting configuring/trouble shooting switches and firewalls loadbalancers etc.) (Mainly Cisco stuff)

Managed services company means that people outsource their requirements to us, hence I never work on just one system or in just one environment. which is nice as it keeps things fairly fresh and interesting.

I work in the IT Helpdesk for a large Internet retail store with a few 'brick and mortar' shops around the Midwest. I'm located near the warehouse so there's a lot of different devices we support. Pretty interesting job.

I work for a company as a quality control officer of sorts, basically checking for architectural completeness on various projects. Also just a general help around the office with IT and most things techy that need doing.
In terms of night life, I mostly go to the Student Union - but the more popular clubs are: Walkabout, Glam, Tiger Tiger & Oceana. Towards the end of the night, people tend to go to "Live Lounge" - they play kinda alternative songs etc. (They where blasting out "i'm on a boat" the other week).

For daytime/less heavy night time things, Cardiff Bay is quite nice (The Official Cardiff Bay Website) - but I don't know if it's the best place to go for a Stag Do (it's a bit posher than the center off Cardiff).
