Yup. That's why Sony's move of embracing Blu-Ray completely is risky. It could help them win or could completely sink them.
The Cell isn't completely proprietary. It was co-developed by Sony, Toshiba and IBM and some companies are planning to use it in servers or blade servers. There might even be some use for it in the military.
