Default non computer Cryptology thread (code breaking) classical

This thread is dedicated to those who like cryptology. If I am the only one I guess this thread won't get posted and moved to the back, then so be it.

I am stuck right now on comprehending the vinegre cypher.
go here http://www.simonsingh.net/ for crypto info

this provides a explanation for cracking the vinegre

For me it wasn't clear enough. I got stuck a little into it.

Can anyone explain? Anyone have other cryptography post?

It's actually very interesting. What he is talking about has to do with codes and cyphers and shit. I used to be really into all of that. Now I am really rusty.

I love stuff like that, I got into it a few years back when I read The Davinchi Code(fantastic book).

Simon Singh had a competition and the winners won 10,000 dollars. A team of Swedes (about 6) Codes are fun to make and decypher.

Codes were used in the wars to hide messages from the enemy. See german enigma machine.

Right now I am trying to break vinegre codes. Does anyone understand these instructions http://www.simonsingh.net/The_Black_...king_tool.html
